Although the guests were unaware of it at the time, Woodstock would go down in history as one of the most memorable occasions of the ’60s. But at that precise time, the visitors to Max Yasgur’s farm understood they were witnessing something historic. It’s hard not to!

The unfortunate thing about incredible moments like this is that they inevitably come to an end. And there’s no question that many other people’s faces mirrored the grief on this young man’s face. Even a few more people who, like him, weren’t too keen to go home can be made out in the background.
