After Ank Bijleveld obtained her degree in Public Administration, she started working for the municipality of Hengelo as a policy officer and became a councilor in Enschede on behalf of the CDA. When she was finally allowed to sit in the House of Representatives, she moved to The Hague. In 2001 she left it again to become mayor of Hof van Twente and six years later she was State Secretary for the Interior and Kingdom Relations. She then climbed through the post of Commissioner to Minister of Defense in the Rutte III cabinet. All in all, she has a nice piggy bank that exceeds the million, but there will probably be something more as acting mayor of Almere.
