Yao Ming, 2008
Many people are familiar with Yao Ming. He started his profession playing for the Shanghai Sharks in the CBA and was drafted as the first pick by the Houston Rockets in 2002. He went on to be the first international player to be selected without previously playing U.S. college basketball.
Ming is one of China’s best-known athletes for his talent and incredible seven-foot-six height. He had to retire in July 2011 due to a series of foot injuries leading him to miss several games. The three-time Olympian was among the first to carry the flame at the Olympic Torch Relay in February 2022 ahead of the Beijing games.
