Behind this amusing spectacle is Alfred Date, an Australian with a heart for penguins. Alfred crafts these outfits for a noble purpose—to assist penguins in recovering from oil spills. These custom-made “clothes” prevent the birds from ingesting toxic oil while preening, aiding their rehabilitation and eventual return to the wild. Alfred, the penguin fashion designer, is an unsung hero in protecting these adorable creatures.
