Sly & The Family Stone Wants to Take You Higher
Sly Stone has a distinctly ’60s appearance thanks to his enormous specs and huge chained choker. But nobody thought about his distinctive style during his emotional rendition of “I Want to Take You Higher” in the early hours of day two of Woodstock ’69. Sly & The Family Stone were incredibly energetic and forceful, considering their late arrival.
In fact, the audience was too engrossed in yelling “Higher” in response to his call and response. The audience was having so much fun that they asked for two encores. Many people agree that their performance at the Woodstock concert is one of their best.
