Joan Baez Dazzles The Crowd
Joan Baez was folk royalty for a very long time. The crowd was aware of what to anticipate as she got on stage on the first day of Woodstock to perform the last act. Baez gave them a remarkable concert that ushered in the daybreak for more than an hour.
Jeffrey Shurtleff and Richard Festinger soon joined Baez for a cover of “I Shall Be Released.” She also presented a brief history of each song and an explanation of the inspiration for it to the audience in between performances. Her flawless acapella rendition of “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” served as the ideal cap to her performance.
