Als Partei entschloss sie sich für die CDU und ist seit 2018 als Bundesministerin für Bildung und Forschung tätig. Ihr Gehalt befindet sich damit bei 200 000 Euro brutto pro Jahr, aber dadurch, dass sie die Position seit wenigen Jahren besitzt, ist ihr Gesamtvermögen noch unter einer Million Euro.
