Installé à Paris dès les années 70, Patrick Sébastien s’est d’abord forgé une réputation dans les cabarets, imitant Bourvil et d’autres icônes. Il apparaît à la télévision dans Numéro un en 1976 puis sur TF1 avec des émissions parodiques comme Carnaval. Sébastien devient incontournable sur France 2 en présentant Le Plus Grand Cabaret du monde, jusqu’à fin 2019 après plus de 200 numéros mensuels depuis 1998.
Financièrement, ses revenus ont longtemps été alimentés par ses salaires à la télévision. Il touchait notamment jusqu’à 10 000 euros par épisode sur Les Années Bonheur. Cela arrive à un total d’à peu près 840 000 euros pour 84 émissions. Sébastien assure lui-même gagner davantage grâce à la scène et à ses chansons.
