These Hollywood Legends Are Still Alive And Winning Life

Helen Shapiro – London, 75

Not even poverty can stop pure talent; Helen Shapiro can vouch for that. Unlike any female artist in the 1960s, the aspiring star has a unique deep low voice, hence the nickname ‘Foghorn.’ Deeply motivated to earn a career, the young Shapiro worked her way up, from amateur youth club to the British Pop scene.

The London-born singer released her first single with EMI records, ‘Don’t Treat Me Like a Child.’ The debut album peaked at number 3 in the UK Singles, cemented by a chart-topping ballad ‘You Don’t Know.’ Her matured voice sold a million records and made her the youngest female charter in the UK. Her later career choices transitioned to musical theatre and British soap opera.
