John Lewis – $300 Thousand
He was such an exemplary leader and politician that in 2011, the then president of the United States, Barack Obama awarded John Lewis a presidential Medal of Freedom. This came as such an honor for the gentleman who served as the third chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee that marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. protesting discrimination.
Lewis may have passed on at the age of 80 in the year 2020, but his legacy certainly lives on, having left a bank account with $300K. The US Navy named a replenished oiler after him in 2016, and the tales of the legend’s service to the people of America will live on.
