Nach dem Erfolg von “Lola rennt“ im Jahr 1998 wurde Franka Potente über Nacht berühmt. Obwohl sie in der Rolle rote Haare trug, bevorzugt sie privat ihre natürliche schwarze Haarfarbe und trägt gerne dezentes Make-up. Ihre natürliche Schönheit hat sie über die Jahre hinweg bewahrt, was sicherlich auch ihrem gesunden Lebensstil zu verdanken ist. Franka treibt viel Sport, isst gesund und vermeidet Süßigkeiten, da sie glaubt, dass diese ihr Gesicht aufgedunsen machen.
Nach Beziehungen mit dem deutschen Regisseur Tom Tykwer und dem US-Schauspieler Elijah Wood ist sie seit 2012 mit dem US-Schauspieler Derek Richardson verheiratet. Das Paar hat zwei Töchter und lebt in Los Angeles.
