Thea Gottschalk, geboren als Thea Hauer in den letzten Tagen des Zweiten Weltkriegs, wuchs in Nürnberg auf und arbeitete in den 70er Jahren in einer Werbeagentur. 1972 lernte sie bei einem Medizinball in München den damaligen Radiomoderator Thomas Gottschalk kennen, den sie 1976 heiratete.
Thea ist bekannt für ihre ausgefallenen Frisuren und Kleider, ähnlich wie ihr Ex-Mann Thomas. Selbst mit über 70 Jahren experimentierte sie noch mit blauen Haaren. Auf den roten Teppichen sorgt sie stets für Aufsehen, doch über ihr Privatleben ist wenig bekannt. Thea lebt zurückgezogen und vermeidet unvorteilhafte Selbstporträts und private Fotos. Ihre natürliche und jugendliche Ausstrahlung lässt aber vermuten, dass sie auch ohne Make-up toll aussieht.
