Wenn Smith an einem privaten Ort gewesen wäre, wie ihrem Auto oder Zuhause, hätte sie keine Sekunde gezögert, ihr Baby zu stillen. Das Restaurant jedoch war ein öffentlicher Raum, und Smith hatte die Erfahrung gemacht, dass viele Menschen ein Problem damit haben, wenn sie ihre Kinder in solchen Bereichen stillt. Diejenigen, die sich durch das Stillen unwohl fühlten, ließen Smith sich wie eine unwillkommene Kreatur fühlen, angesichts ihrer unverhohlenen Blicke voller Missbilligung.
Dank ihrer ersten beiden Kinder war die Mutter jedoch immer selbstbewusster geworden, öffentlich zu stillen. Im Laufe der Jahre hatte Smith ihre Meinung zu diesem Thema völlig geändert!
