„Wir saßen in einer Ecke des Restaurants, wo uns eigentlich niemand sehen konnte, aber als die Kellnerin vorbeikam, sah sie mich stillen und gab mir diesen Blick“, fuhr Smith fort. „Ich fing sofort an, mich zu stressen.“ „Ich dachte: ‚Denkt sie, dass ich das jetzt nicht tun sollte?‘ Ich versuchte nur, meinen Sohn für die anderen Gäste im Restaurant glücklich und ruhig zu halten“, sagte Smith.
Smith war keine Kämpferin für soziale Gerechtigkeit, zumindest nicht, wenn sie mit ihrer Familie einen schönen Tag verbringen wollte. Die junge Mutter war eher besorgt darüber, dass sie wegen „unangemessenen Verhaltens“ hinausgeworfen werden könnte.
