Bei Fang’s Pizza hatten Smith, ihr Mann und ihre beiden anderen Jungen bereits begonnen, ihre chinesische Pizza zu essen. Doch der jüngste Sohn war immer noch hungrig und weinte am Tisch. Smith blieb nichts anderes übrig, als sich zu bedecken und ihren kleinen Jungen im Restaurant zu stillen, während sie aß.
„Ich stille normalerweise nicht gern in der Öffentlichkeit, weil die Leute verurteilend sein können“, erinnerte sich Smith. „Ich versuchte, ihn mit verschiedenen Spielzeugen zu beschäftigen, aber er wurde nicht ruhiger. Also entschied ich mich, ihn zu stillen. Ich holte eine Decke aus der Wickeltasche und bedeckte mich etwas”.
