The vet went on to explain to Jonathan that the raccoons had been infected with a virus well known to doctors who were studying it closely as they did not yet have the cure in hand. In fact, in recent times this situation had been reported several times in the area and although rodents were more prone to transmission of the infection, it seemed that all animals could contract that terrible virus. The cases of death were numerous with minimal chances of recovery. Taking an infected raccoon to a vet full of animals was potentially dangerous for everyone.
