Derek also touched the lives of children playing Mr. Derek on “The Basil Brush Show” in the 1970s. Later, he delighted audiences as Sgt. Oscar Blaketon in “Heartbeat,” a role he cherished for 18 years. In January 2020, Derek passed away from heart failure linked to sepsis at the age of 82.
