Het heeft zijn populariteit zeker geen schade berokkent, want de man werd steeds populairder en een heel herkenbare speler op het veld. Na een doortocht bij AC Milaan, Juventus, Tottenham, Internazionale en Barcelona was zijn spaarpotje al heel goed gevuld. Neem daarbij zijn prestaties voor Oranje en het vele vastgoed dat hij met winst kon verkopen en we klokken zijn vermogen af op iets minder dan dertig miljoen euro.
