In Indonesia, this female soldier salutes with a radiant smile and stands proudly in the armed forces, her shirt decked with badges. These women defy stereotypes, showcasing their dedication and capability. However, their journey has not been without challenges. Historically, female recruits endured the degrading “Two-finger test,” a discriminatory practice where a doctor inserted fingers to ascertain their purity.
This invasive procedure, thankfully, was abolished in 2014, marking a victory for gender equality and human rights. Despite the trials, Indonesian female soldiers, with their resilience and determination, continue to contribute significantly to the defense and tight security of their nation.
