Ted Williams, 1956

Ted Williams has had an incredible 19-year run in Major League Baseball, most notably for the Boston Red Sox, until his sudden departure to complete his military service during World War II and the Korean War.

The left-fielder is a two-time recipient of the American League MVP Award, six-time batting champion, and two-time Triple Crown winner. Many regard him as one of the greatest hitters in the history of the sport and, to date, the last player to hit over .400 in a season. He received the coveted Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1991 from ex-President George W. Bush.
