Anok Yai, das in Ägypten geborene amerikanische Model mit südsudanesischen Wurzeln, sorgte bei der Met Gala 2023 in einem Outfit von Prabal Gurung für ordentlich Furore. Ihr trägerloses, mit Pailletten besetztes Kleid in Gold- und Silbertönen endete in einem Meerjungfrauenrock, der sich wie durch Zauberhand in Luft aufzulösen schien.
Seit ihrer Entdeckung auf einer Party hat Yai eine beeindruckende Karriere hingelegt, unter anderem als erstes südsudanesisches Model, das eine Prada-Modenschau eröffnete – nach Naomi Campbell als zweites schwarzes Model überhaupt. Yais Auftritt auf der Met Gala bestätigte einmal mehr ihren Status als echte Schönheit und Stil-Ikone und ihr Look verkörperte ihre Einzigartigkeit.
