Jim Thorpe’s Mismatched Shoes at the 1912 Olympics
The late American Olympian Jim Thorpe won two gold medals for the U.S. at the 1912 Olympics. This picture has a peculiar backstory. The athlete could not locate his footwear just before he was scheduled to compete in the games. For him, it wasn’t a huge thing.
Thorpe handled what appeared to be a tense scenario by removing mismatched shoes from the garbage. He had to wear several pairs of socks to make up for the fact that they were of various sizes. The pentathlon and decathlon champion was nevertheless able to take home two gold medals. What a fantastic achievement!
