The ’50s New York Tunnel Police

These small “catwalk cars” were first used as police patrol vehicles in Holland in 1954, beneath the Hudson River. While patrolling, they proved to be really effective for the police. Before their arrival, traffic issues were handled by police officers on foot.

Following its popularity, they released four more in the Lincoln Tunnel in 1960. These amusing toy-like engines had an eight-horsepower engine and could travel up to 35 miles per hour. These automobiles helped make life simpler for hundreds of cops and were still in use until 2011. It was a one-seater and could only contain a few tools due to its small size.
