Glory Hole Recreation Area is a popular outdoor destination. The signpost by the side of the road proudly announces the location ahead, with smaller signs depicting activities like hiking and anchoring beneath it. The name, likely eliciting a chuckle because of its double entendre, adds a playful touch to the journey.
The recreation area is part of New Melones Lake on the Stanislaus River. This body of water, spanning 12,500 acres, is located near the historical Mother Lode, the heart of the California Gold Rush of 1849. This recreational spot offers a variety of activities, including tent and RV camping, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, swimming, and stargazing.
