Die Glory Hole Recreation Area ist ein beliebtes Ausflugsziel. Der Wegweiser am Straßenrand verkündet stolz den Ort, der vor uns liegt, und darunter befinden sich kleinere Schilder, die Aktivitäten wie Wandern und Ankern beschreiben. Der Name, der aufgrund seiner Doppeldeutigkeit wahrscheinlich ein Schmunzeln hervorruft, verleiht der Reise eine spielerische Note.
Das Erholungsgebiet ist Teil des New Melones Lake am Stanislaus River. Das 12.500 Hektar große Gewässer befindet sich in der Nähe der historischen Mother Lode, dem Zentrum des kalifornischen Goldrausches von 1849. Das Erholungsgebiet bietet eine Vielzahl von Aktivitäten, darunter Zelten, Wandern, Mountainbiking, Angeln, Schwimmen und Sternenbeobachtung.
