Seine herausragenden Reflexe beeindrucken bis heute noch ehemalige Mitspieler als auch Gegenspieler. Im Jahr 2008 heiratet der ehemalige Bayern-Star seine langjährige Lebensgefährtin Monika Roth. Die Hochzeit und auch sein übriges Privatleben hält Sepp Maier aus der Öffentlichkeit heraus.
