Like one of those experiments where people take the same photo over a period of years, showing how the people in it have aged, this photo was done in a similar way. However, this one shows a massive difference between the size of the older dog and the puppy once it is older.
This is because these two are different breeds. The older dog in the first picture is a Shiba Inu, while the puppy is an Alaskan Malamute. The latter was always going to mature into a larger dog, hence the difference in size. Malamutes are renowned for their strength and are used to pull sleds in the far north.
