Comeback nach Verletzung
Nachdem sie einen Unfall überstanden hat und sich gut erholt hatte, war Stokke ehrgeiziger denn je. Im Alter von 17 Jahren wurde sie erneut kalifornische Meisterin. Ihr Erfolg bei den kalifornischen Meisterschaften brachte ihr ein Stipendium für die University of California in Berkeley ein, doch ein Foto sollte ihr Leben verändern.
Während eines Stabhochsprungs bei einem Leichtathletikwettkampf in New York machte ein Fotograf viele Fotos von dem Wettkampf, die Stokke beim Aufwärmen zeigten. Ein bestimmtes Foto von ihr sorgte für viel Aufmerksamkeit was Stokke schlussendlich zu einer Internet-Berühmtheit machte, wie sagt man so schön: ”Das Internet vergisst nie”.
